A heartbroken schoolboy slapped on his best aftershave and picked up a bouquet of flowers in a bid to win back his girlfriend of two years.

Harley Glenwright, seven, from Barnsley, was dumped on his first day back to school by Sophie Clancy after she became sick of his 'bad attitude'.

The little lad, who is being assessed for ADHD and autism, had 'got angry' with his new teacher and a drop in his behaviour didn't impress his girlfriend.

But Harley didn't give up hope and bought her some flowers to say sorry.

Luckily, Sophie was bowled over by Harley's gesture and declared that she 'loved him to bits' before giving him a huge hug.

Harley's mum, Stefania Finch, said she was super proud of her little man.

The 26-year-old said: "Harley ripped the flowers out of my hand and gave them to her with a big smile. She gave him a right big cuddle.

"People are really invested in their story online. They've been saying 'give me updates'.

"I've told Sophie's mum Jacklyn that Sophie is welcome to come round for a little play date."

Even during lockdown, when the lovebirds couldn't be together, Harley said he couldn't wait to see her again.

But sadly, after an outburst in class on Monday (7 August), Sophie ended things with him.

Stefania explained: "My son also has additional needs and he's waiting for an assessment for ADHD and autism so he can find school extremely challenging and have challenging behaviour at school sometimes.

"He came out of school and said 'I'm so upset Mum - Sophie's broke up with me because of my attitude'. He got angry at the new teacher and it made her sad.

"I said 'do you want to go to school and get her some flowers or something?' In the past if he's had a bad day with staff at school during a meltdown we've gone to get them some flowers."

Sophie said she loved the flowers and decided to give Harley another chance.

The next day, Harley sprang out of bed, put on his favourite aftershave and made himself look sharp for Sophie.

But as Sophie was late for school so he had to wait until the end of the day to give her the flowers he'd bought.

Stefania said: "[After school] he came running out saying 'me and Sophie are back together - she gave me a hug and we're okay'.

"He told me 'I'm going to try not to get angry at school anymore'. She's helping him at school."

After Sophie was handed the beautiful bunch of flowers, she announced to her mum, Jacklyn Clancey, 'I love him to bits' and promised to return the gesture.

The 29-year-old said: "They're so sweet together. My heart completely melted.

"Bless his heart - wanting to do that for her.

Harley's mum, Stefania, says she's proud of her little boy for apologising.

"I asked Sophie what happened [between them] and she said 'well he was a bit cheeky mum and I didn't like his attitude so we broke up'.

"They were back together before [this]. I'm glad they sorted it out between themselves."

Adding: "Sophie was so thankful for her flowers and chocolates. She said 'I love him to bits. He's so nice and kind to me'.

"As soon as we got home, she was saying 'mum, put them in a vase'. It's been the best thing that happened to her since lock-down."

Jacklyn also praised Harley's mum and dad for teaching their boy how to act like a gentleman.

She said: "I can't get my boyfriend to get my flowers even on my birthday. He's feeling the pressure now.

"I said 'come on, step up your game'. He hasn't got a romantic bone in his body.

"Sophie wants to get him something back like a toy or something."
